UcanScuba says UcanPhoto!

Go to any travel/consumer dive show in the world, and you will see pictures of the aquatic realm everywhere!  Look at the speakers list, and 70-80% of the speakers are there because of their photography.

Which leads to my point that Underwater Photography has been one of the primary motivators behind most Scuba technological advancements.

The primary objections to getting into underwater photography – by divers – is the belief that its too complicated or “I don’t take good photos”.  That might be true at the outset, although if you take enough pictures, percentages suggest that 5 to 10% of them will be “good”.

Cameras today, such as the Sealife Micro2, are simple to start, take great video and stills and have built-in filters so you don’t have to mess with lenses to get good colour photo/Video underwater (and on land).

The key is to develop your style.  Photographers, like painters, have a style.  Subjects/lighting/composition which are like a signature.  Often it is part conscious, but mostly it just happens, kind of like a finger-print.  This can be likened to the voice of a singer.

Thus, we say, “Find your Voice” with respect to photography.  Just do it and you will have success and failures, but the nice thing is that a failed photo can be deleted (after you analyse it for what went wrong).  Don’t delete all the “bad” photos.  Keep some to show where you’ve been.
